Why Properly Maintaining Your AC System Is So Important

Why Properly Maintaining Your AC System Is So Important

Maintaining your AC system is an important aspect of having one of these systems in your home. Many people have a system installed in their home or business, but fail to actually keep it properly maintained, believing that it will just take care of itself. Your Sarasota AC system is like any other piece of big, expensive machinery.

It needs proper maintenance in order to avoid a serious malfunction that could cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to repair. If you want to keep your system working properly, maintenance is a must. Here are just a few of the other benefits of properly maintaining your AC system:

  1. Lower monthly bills

Think about your car. Newer cars almost always have better gas mileage than older cars. Over time, especially if your car does not get the maintenance it needs, you will find yourself paying more and more for gas, as your car becomes less and less efficient.

The same goes for your AC system. While your system might still be working, if it does not get the maintenance it needs, you’ll find yourself steadily paying more and more for running that system across the months. You might not notice the uptick at first, but over the seasons, you’ll start to see that you are paying much more for electricity that you used to be. When your system has the maintenance it needs, however, you will see lower monthly bills.

  1. Less chance of expensive repairs

Again, use your car as an analogy. If you drive it for ten years without once changing the oil or having your system tuned, you are likely going to have a serious malfunction that is going to be very expensive to fix. Your AC system is the same way. Regular maintenance not only helps you catch small problems before they become big problems, but also helps you prevent small problems from happening. When your filters are regularly switched out, for example, your system does not have to work as hard and you are less likely to have an issue with you air intake. Better maintenance means fewer repairs and a much lower chance of having to completely replace your system in the future.

  1. Better air

When your system is properly maintained, you will have clean filters and ducts, which means the air that is blown into your rooms is much healthier than air from a system that has not been maintained. Your ducts can quickly become clogged with dust, dirt, and other particulates. This might not sound like that big of a deal, but as the air from your air conditioner is pushed through those ducts, it picks up those particulates and sprays them into your room through your vents.

You will then be breathing in all of that dust, dirt, mold spores, and pollen that are commonly found in ducts. When you invest in maintenance, you will not have this issue.

  1. Extend the life of your system

Your AC system is just like any other piece of machinery. The harder it has to work to function, the short its life is going to be. Small issues like clogged filters and ducts can actually cause your system to have to work exponentially harder in order to cool your rooms the same amount as it was before. The harder the system works, the higher chance there is for something to go wrong. You can significantly extend the life of your system by having it properly maintained and having to do as little hard work as possible. When your system gets the maintenance it needs, it can last far longer than ten years. It is actually a much cheaper option to keep your system maintained than to replace it every time it has a serious malfunction because it was not maintained.

  1. Maintain efficiency

The less maintenance a system gets, the harder it has to work—this has already been established. You will be paying higher electricity bills because the energy efficiency of your system has plummeted. Most systems will require more than 20% more power to cool your rooms the same amount as they would if they were properly maintained. This also means more wear and tear, in addition to being a heavier burden on the environment. If you want to be able to cool your room as well as minimize your impact on the environment, keeping your AC system properly maintained is a great way to do both.

  1. Use your warranty

If you are experiencing an issue with your AC system, the problem part might still be under warranty. Regular maintenance helps you keep a list of what parts are under warranty and when that warranty expires. It might also help you identify an issue with a part that is under warranty and can be quickly replaced at no cost to you, before it is too late and a bigger, more expensive fix is required.

  1. Fewer emergencies

You never want to have to deal with an AC system emergency, especially at the height of summer. Systems that get maintenance every year are far less likely to need an emergency repair, as the issues that often cause these emergencies are noticed and fixed during routine maintenance.
